Bryce vs Arches: which one first?
Both parks can be done in a single day of highlights, but the experiences are completely different. Use this table to decide in 30 seconds:
| Factor | Bryce Canyon | Arches |
|---|---|---|
| Core experience | Sunrise lighting up the amphitheaters; descend into the canyon on the Navajo Loop | 2,000+ arches; Delicate Arch at sunset |
| Elevation / climate | 8,000 ft+; cool summers, snow in winter | 4,000 ft; blazing summers (95°F+) |
| Line risk | Low — almost no wait at sunrise | High — entrance lines can exceed 1 hour in peak season |
| With kids | Queens/Navajo Loop have gentle grades | Most arches are near the road — even easier |
| One-line verdict | Pick it for photography / sunrise | Pick it for first-timers / kids |
If you're doing both, here's the order
Coming from Las Vegas: Zion → Bryce → (via Scenic Byway 12) Capitol Reef → Arches → Canyonlands. Coming from Salt Lake City: run it in reverse. Putting Arches last concentrates peak-season line risk at the tail end of your trip, so keep one flexible morning as a buffer.
