Where to stay in Zion with kids: one decision table
Visiting Zion with kids, your lodging choice really answers one question: what time you can be standing at the shuttle. From April to September the shuttle is the only way in, and waiting 30 minutes with kids versus 5 minutes are two very different trips.
| Option | Getting in | Drive | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Springdale (at the park gate) | Walk + town shuttle to the visitor center | 0 min | Families with budget to spare who want the first shuttle |
| Hurricane (15 min away) | Drive to a Springdale lot and transfer | ~20 min | The value sweet spot — the answer for most families |
| St. George (the big city) | Drive and transfer | ~45 min | About 40% cheaper with more dining; good for 3+ nights |
Execution notes for families
- Be at the shuttle stop before 7:00 AM: in peak season the lots are usually full after 8.
- Don't put Angels Landing on the itinerary: with kids, hike to Scout Lookout — all of the scenery, zero permits. See the backup hikes on the permit page.
- Riverside Walk is a destination, not a consolation prize: stroller-friendly all the way to the mouth of the Narrows.
